Blackheads form when oil, dead skin, and bacteria combine to produce a gluey gunk (to be scientific) that lodges in your pores, oxidizes, and turns black. They’re a very pesky, very common trait of oily and combination skin that’ll keep coming back unless you treat your skin properly. Here’s the three-step strategy for keeping blackheads at bay.
1. Wash your face twice a day
Oil, dead skin, and dirt collect in your pores during the day and while you sleep—that’s how blackheads happen. Washing your face in the morning and evening (with the right cleanser) will help to prevent future blackheads and clear the ones you’ve got.
2. Use acid
Acid-based products are the secret weapon for blackhead removal. Found in certain creams and toners, ingredients like Salicylic and Glycolic acid combine the size and strength to dive deep into your pores, loosen, and destroy existing blackheads better than any method—especially squeezing.
2. Don't quit
It takes time and consistency to show blackheads who’s boss. Keep up with your regimen if you want to see real results. Also, we know laundry sucks but be sure to wash your pillowcase regularly.
