The Skincare Superheroes

undefined

The Avengers, and their neverending list of movies, have had more than their fair share of time to shine.

We’d like to introduce you to a new set of superheroes. The kind that can make you look younger, feel better, and stand taller.

While the list of beneficial skincare ingredients is far too long to list here, there are a handful of standouts that go above and beyond to conquer the most common skin concerns.

These are the six superhero skincare ingredients.

Vitamin C

As you age, the amount of collagen in your skin decreases. Collagen is like the scaffolding that keeps your skin firm and wrinkle-free. Less collagen means more wrinkles. When applied to the skin, vitamin C has the ability to stimulate collagen production to prevent and minimize the appearance of wrinkles. It also inhibits melanin production, which makes vitamin C a top ingredient for fading hyperpigmentation.

Hyaluronic Acid

The ultimate hydrator, Hyaluronic Acid is probably the most superhero-like ingredient because it actually has the ability to hold 1000x its weight in water. Everyone can benefit from using Hyaluronic Acid, those who deal with dry skin will enjoy its hydrating benefits, while those who experience oiliness will like its ability to moisturize without adding shine.

Peptides

Peptides are the sneakiest of the skincare superheroes. When applies to the skin, Peptides actually disguise themselves as broken-down collagen. This tricks your skin cells into producing more collagen to compensate. Very tricky, and very wrinkle-reducing.

AHAs and BHAs

These are the all-powerful exfoliators. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) like Glycolic Acid, Citric Acid, and Lactic Acid exfoliate your pores and the surface of your skin to prevent breakouts, clear blackheads, and fade wrinkles. Salicylic Acid, the Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) of the group travels deeper inside the pore than any other ingredient to clear and prevent breakouts at the source.

Vitamin A (Retinol)

Perhaps the most hyped (for good reason) superhero ingredient, Vitamin A—more commonly known as Retinol—is another great collagen booster to help reduce wrinkles. Vitamin A also exfoliates the skin, making it great for those looking to clear acne and prevent future breakouts.

Niacinamide

Niacinimide used to be an under-the-radar superhero but it’s now experiencing the attention it deserves. Niacinimide had the ability to firm your skin and strengthen its protective barrier which minimizes redness. It’s also a favorite ingredient for those looking to minimize the appearance of their pores because Niacinimide increases skin elasticity which helps to snap pores back to their original size.
